Ghana’s head coach, Otto Addo, has noted that Ayews’ return to the Black Stars team relies only on his contract search and the merits he shall exhibit in the new team. Ayew, who has not been included in the squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations matches against Angola and Niger, has been in the list twice after he was also left out of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June, which saw Ghana beat Mali and the Central African Republic.
A decision to drop Ayew in this case was well expected especially knowing that he was a free agent after being released by Le Havre. This brings into question the future of Ayew whose involvement with the Black Stars dates back to 2007 but during the announcement of the squad on Thursday, Addo did not close the door on Ayew and only stated that the player needs to find a club and perform brilliantly if he wants to play again for his country.
He stated, “Andre Ayew is a quality player, but at the moment, he is not with us. He doesn’t have a club at the moment, but the future is unpredictable,” Addo stated.
If he secures a club, performs well, and scores 20 goals, maybe he can return because we are building something for the future.”
