Ghana’s coach, Otto Addo, has shared his thoughts following the Black Stars’ 2-0 loss to Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Ghana, aiming to bounce back after a defeat to Angola and a draw with Niger in their previous matches, had hoped for a turnaround. However, their struggles persisted. After a goalless draw in the first leg against Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium, the team fell 2-0 in the return leg held in Libya.
In an interview with the Ghana FA media, the 45-year-old coach admitted that the defeat hit him hard on a personal level. He expressed that the recent days were emotionally tough but emphasized how vital the support of his family and friends was in helping him regain his focus. Addo acknowledged the challenges but credited his loved ones for lifting his spirits.
“To be honest, I felt like I was dead these past two days, but I received a lot of positive feedback and support from family and friends. This is the time when I need them, and I think the players and the whole team need it too. Their encouragement got me back on track,” Addo revealed.
The defeat leaves Ghana in a difficult position with just two points from four matches. The Black Stars now face a must-win situation in their final group matches against Angola and Niger in November, hoping that Sudan drops points in their remaining games to keep their qualification hopes alive.
