Otumfuo has destools three chiefs over ‘galamsey’

In a rather interesting development, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, has destools the Gyaasihene, Akyeamehene, and Baamuhene of Sabronum removing them from their positions of authority. This was agreed and arrived at during a meeting of the Asanteman Council held on the said date in the Manhyia Palace.

This comes after they were implicated in ‘galamsey’, an act of Illegal mining that has prematurely affected the region and gained the hearts of many people. This strong action by the Asantehene just goes to show that the Asante kingdom will not tolerate practices that are deemed as having detrimental impacts on the environment and peoples’ source of livelihoods.

Illegal mining otherwise known as ‘Galamsey’ has for many years been a concern in the area as many chiefs and other leaders have been accused of either involved or neglecting the act. This has seen the Asanteman Council receiving increasing pressure to deal with the issue once and for all.

After the destoolment process, the new Sabronum Manhene elect is Kofi Asante; therefore, he has been duly nominated and appointed to preside over the welfare of the community from now.

This development marks a new chapter for Sabronum, as the community looks to move forward from the challenges posed by galamsey.

Diverse responses have been generated by the destoolment; some have praised Otumfuo Asantehene’s choice as a daring stance against galamsey, while others have voiced worries about the possible repercussions for the impacted people and their families.
