The Member of Parliament for Ablekuma West, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has called on Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin to take decisive action to restore calm in the House, warning that the 8th Parliament could be remembered as the worst in Ghana’s history if the current disorder continues.
Owusu-Ekuful voiced her concerns over the escalating chaos in Parliament and emphasized that it is the Speaker’s duty to maintain order and prevent further disruptions. She recalled the tumultuous events that took place during Bagbin’s election as Speaker, stressing that strong leadership is essential to uphold the integrity of the institution.
Her comments come in the midst of rising tensions between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as both parties claim majority status in Parliament, leading to continuous disputes and confrontations.
Speaking to the media at the launch of an industry forum and the inauguration of an independent assessor by the Cyber Security Authority, Owusu-Ekuful urged all parties to work towards peace and stability in the House, highlighting the broader impact on national progress.
She called on Speaker Bagbin to convene with the leadership of Parliament to address the situation calmly, emphasizing the need for the institution and democracy to emerge victorious.
