PAC summons Ghana Buffer Stock Company, Free SHS Secretariat

James Klutse Avedzi, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament, has urged the Free Senior High School (SHS) Secretariat and the Ghana National Buffer Stock Company to hold a meeting aimed at addressing the shortfall in food supplies to Amenfiman SHS.

This recommendation came during the Committee’s examination of the Auditor-General’s 2023 Report in Takoradi. The report revealed that the Buffer Stock Company failed to deliver the necessary quantities of food items to the school, forcing Amenfiman SHS to ration meals for its students.

School authorities explained that determining the appropriate amount of food to be supplied has been a challenge. Currently, a WhatsApp platform is used to communicate about food deliveries, but the system has led to inconsistencies.

“There is a critical need to meet with the Buffer Stock Company to clarify the issues surrounding the food supply shortages. We’ve identified numerous loopholes in the process,” Avedzi said, stressing the importance of resolving the matter promptly.

The Free SHS Secretariat and the Buffer Stock Company are scheduled to appear before the PAC on October 15, 2024, to discuss these concerns.

In his closing remarks, Avedzi thanked regional officials for participating in the month-long review of the Audit Report. He also emphasized that institutions cited for infractions must begin implementing the recommendations before PAC submits its final report to Parliament.
