PAC refutes allegations of bribery

James Klutse Avedzi, the head of the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament, has denied any involvement in any instances of bribery. The committee has been the target of ongoing accusations of bribery, corruption, and favoritism over the years. Following allegations made by investigative journalist Manasseh Awuni Azure in his most recent book, “The President Ghana Never Got,” the topic has recently attracted more attention.

He claims that certain lawmakers have verified that officials who are supposed to testify before the Committee to address violations outlined in the Auditor General’s report compensate committee members in order to expedite their cases and guarantee lenient treatment. James Klutse Avedzi, the chairman of the Committee, addressed the issues in Parliament on Tuesday, August 20, stating that the charges were untrue.

This is what he said “I’ve always tried to be fair, so I don’t take money from people to be lenient with them. If other members have been taking money so be it, but for me, I don’t do that, But those allegations will definitely be there because we are a public organization dealing with the public so people will come and say all sorts of things but it is not true”.

In response to the question of which of the cases sent to the Attorney General has been prosecuted thus far, Mr. Avedzi disclosed that, up until this year, parliament has not sent any of the recommendations made to the AG since 2017.In response to the question of which of the cases sent to the Attorney General has been prosecuted thus far, Mr. Avedzi disclosed that, up until this year, parliament has not sent any of the recommendations made to the AG since 2017.
