NDC supporters and police face off at Finance Ministry

At the Ministry of Finance, hostilities broke out between the police and the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) Brigade, a youth organization connected to the National Democratic Congress (NDC). On September 4, the ORAL Brigade gathered at the Finance Ministry to express disapproval of the administration, led by President Akufo-Addo, for allegedly mismanaging the country’s finances.

The organization claims that their protest is intended to expose what they perceive to be significant financial mismanagement, and they have recently increased their demands for responsibility. The unresolved $34.9 million Ambulance Spare Parts contract is one of the main points of complaint, according to the organization, since it raises questions about the validity of the procurement procedure and the use of the money meant to enhance emergency medical services.

In addition, the ORAL Brigade demanded complete openness over the amount spent on the 2023 All-African Games and expressed concerns regarding the Ghana Revenue Authority’s (GRA) role in the Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML) agreement.
