PPP’s National General Secretary, Remy Edmundson declares the party’s support for the call made by the NDC for an external forensic audit of the voters’ register. Further, he sought to establish that distrust of the register is common with many citizens of the nation having raised alarms.
Mr. Edmundson said he was equally concerned about the temporary transfer of voters from their polling stations, adding that this seems to be a rampant problem and may cause confusion. These remarks come at the backdrop of the NDC Minority in Parliament struggling to address what it alleges to be tampering with the voters’ register, an exercise which has been characterized with some irregularities some of which the Electoral Commission readily admits.
The NDC’s Minority has equally said and boldly declared that, the party does not have confidence in the current voters’ register anymore. He said that all the political parties are the very interested parties in the electoral process and should come up with a common integrated effort to resolve all the genuine issues arising before the elections.
Mr. Edmundson also noted that with the period of the exhibition almost over, the Electoral commission needs to compile the last register is an important step towards credible electoral process.
“We know they are going to address all the complaints that have been raised and work on them. Therefore, we urge the EC to make this information available as quickly as possible so that political parties will have enough time to review it. If there are any issues, we can engage with them again and work together to resolve them before the elections. That should be the first step. Let us have the final register compiled, and then we can see if the identified mistakes have been addressed and proceed from there.”
