Ghana Highway Authority Closes Prang-Atebubu Stretch of Highway After White Volta Floods Nyomoase Bridge

The Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) has closed the Prang-Atebubu stretch of the Atebubu-Kumasi Highway in the Bono East Region due to flooding caused by the White Volta River. The floodwaters have submerged the Nyomoase Bridge, cutting off several communities along the route.

Reports indicates that the flood has significantly disrupted the movement of residents and the local economy. Thankfully, no casualties have been reported so far.

Emmanuel Okanklu, the Bono East Regional Director of the GHA, confirmed the closure and explained that the authority had implemented temporary measures to divert traffic and allow vehicles to bypass the affected area. He noted that the floodwaters had inundated parts of the road, making it difficult for vehicles to pass, and that visibility on the road had become hazardous for drivers.

He assured the public that the GHA was on standby and would address the road repairs as soon as the water levels recede. The Bono East Regional Minister, Mr. Kwasi Adu-Gyan, visited the scene to assess the situation and reassure the affected communities that efforts would be made to restore normalcy as soon as possible.

Describing the Atebubu-Kumasi highway as a crucial asset, he emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining the road and ensuring its smooth operation. He also advised drivers to exercise caution, as security forces would soon be deployed to enhance safety along the route.

The GHA has urged the public, especially residents in the affected areas, to remain calm as work continues to address the flood-related issues.
