Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, the President of the Volta Region House of Chiefs (VRHC) and Paramount Chief of Anfoega, has been re-elected to lead the House following an election held in Ho last Tuesday. Running unopposed, Togbe Tepre Hodo was unanimously retained by the chiefs for another term.
In a similar outcome, the Vice-President of the VRHC, Togbe Patamia Dzekle VII, who serves as the Paramount Chief of Battor, also held onto his position. He secured 31 votes out of 59, prevailing over two challengers in the election. Both leaders will continue serving in their respective roles for the next four years.
Additionally, three prominent chiefs were elected to represent the Volta Region at the National House of Chiefs in Kumasi. They include Togbega Abutia Kodzo Gidi V, the Paramount Chief of Abutia; Togbega Gabusu VII, the Paramount Chief of Gbi; and Togbe Gbogbolulu V, the Fiaga of Vakpo.
In his post-election address, Togbe Tepre Hodo IV urged the House to focus on resolving all chieftaincy disputes within the region, stressing that unity is key to achieving progress. He noted that the outcome of the election was no longer of importance and encouraged the members to maintain a united front to advance the interests of the Volta Region.
“We need peace and unity for development, not chieftaincy litigations,” he remarked.
The VRHC President also called on the newly elected representatives to work diligently at the National House of Chiefs, emphasizing that their role was not just to increase the region’s presence but to enhance its standing in chieftaincy matters.
Togbe Tepre Hodo further reminded his colleagues of their responsibility in promoting the region’s rich cultural heritage, which is central to the identity of the Volta people. He expressed gratitude to the members of the House for their support over the past four years and appealed for continued cooperation in his second term.
