The decision about the status of candidates who have filed to run in the general elections of 2024 for the presidency and legislature will be made by the Electoral Commission (EC) on Tuesday, September 17. The EC formed two committees to examine the nomination papers of the different candidates at the beginning of the filing period.
The EC has disclosed that it is well along in reviewing the nomination forms that it has received as the deadline for filing nominations is today. Reports, however, suggest that the committees have already discovered that several candidates have received multiple endorsements.
Samuel Tetteh, the Deputy Commissioner overseeing operations, stated that the EC would only make public the names of candidates who made it through the nomination procedure. He stated that in the meanwhile, the commission has begun contacting presidential candidates whose applications have already been discovered to include errors, asking them to make the necessary corrections as required by law. He clarified, saying that individuals who submitted their forms today would have till Saturday to make any necessary corrections and resubmit them.
