Alliance for Restoration of Civil Rights to stage protest to demand accountability September 11

On September 11, 2024, the Reliance for Restoration of Civil Rights has announced that it will hold a protest. The purpose of the demonstration is to inform the public about the significance of holding public leaders accountable. William Kofi Yirenkyi, the convener of the Alliance for Restoration of Civil Rights, read a statement that included this information.

The release of crucial information that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has been illegally withholding despite a directive from the Right to Information Commission is one of the reasons he listed for their planned demonstration. He went on to emphasise that accountability within the Ghana Police Service and the protection of victims’ rights depend on this kind of transparency.

William Kofi Yirenkyi also threatened to quit as the IGP and threatened to take legal action and file additional impeachment petitions against the president and other top officials if reforms are not implemented within seven days of the protest. In order to demonstrate that injustice is a threat, the organiser also urged Ghanaians, representatives of civil society organisations, and people from other countries to participate in the demonstration.
