The Circuit Court has granted bail to 19 more anti-galamsey protesters, with the bail amount set at GH₵20,000 and one surety required. Among those released is prominent activist Raphael Williams, along with Razak Suleman, Gerald Delim, Comrade Abubakar Sadeeq, Bilal Mohammed, Ebenezer Ankomanyi Okyere, Norgbedzi Kelvin, Priscilla Tobili, Mohammed King Hassan, and Tanko Nabong, also known as Black Pyramid.

In a related development, the convenor of the anti-galamsey protests, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has once again been denied bail. This marks the third time the court has rejected his bail request since his arrest during the demonstration two weeks ago, following opposition from the Attorney General’s Department.
Barker-Vormawor had previously faced bail denials from both the Accra High Court and the Circuit Court. Meanwhile, another detainee, Fanny Otoo, who has been unwell since the arrest, was granted bail of GH₵20,000 with two sureties.
Court Proceedings and Future Dates
Today’s court proceedings saw the State file an affidavit opposing bail applications for 20 additional anti-galamsey Protesters detainees, claiming they had not been properly served. However, court documents indicate that service was conducted on October 2. The Judge has directed that the lawyers for the protesters be properly served moving forward.
The case has been adjourned to October 14, 2024, with additional proceedings scheduled for Wednesday, October 9.
