A comprehensive rehabilitation project has begun on the Apedwa-Ejisu segment of the Accra-Kumasi Highway, aimed at restoring pavement quality and improving both safety and traffic flow. This 160 km stretch is crucial for connecting Accra and Kumasi, passing through key economic towns like Bunso Junction, Anyinam, Konongo, and Ejisu.
During an inspection on Wednesday, Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso-Boakye, highlighted the highway’s importance in linking Ghana’s two largest economic cities. He stated that the government has made a decisive move to rehabilitate this vital corridor.
The 160 km stretch is divided into two sections: Lot 1 spans 90 km from Ejisu to Nkawkaw, while Lot 2 covers 70 km from Nkawkaw to Apedwa. The project includes pavement strengthening, asphalt overlays, and the installation of road furniture.
The Minister urged contractors to implement a strong traffic management plan to minimize disruption for commuters and encouraged motorists to drive safely and comply with the traffic control measures established by the contractors.
