With the expected allocation of GH¢50 million, the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat has declared a potential breakthrough for Ghanaian students studying overseas. This comes after accounts of the difficulties students were having paying their tuition and stipends.
The Scholarship Secretariat’s Head of International Relations and Partnerships, Richard Gyamfi, revealed that while the Ministry has indicated the release of some money, the complete sum required is not met.
In order to guarantee that the money was moved to the Ghana International Bank, which will thereafter enable payments through the Ghanaian Embassy, he continued, the Secretariat had worked on all the required documentation.
Gyamfi underlined that the Secretariat has taken unusual measures to secure the funding and has met with international partners on multiple occasions in order to resolve the matter in a proactive manner.
The GH¢50 million is not enough to pay for all unpaid tuition and stipends, but the Secretariat intends to give tuition payments priority in order to keep students in their programs.
