A new initiative is set to empower over 90,000 young seamstresses with skills training and essential developmental resources, following the signing of a four-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association (GNTDA) and the Springboard Roadshow Foundation.
The collaboration, under the Ghana Grows program, seeks to enhance awareness of the vast opportunities within the technical and vocational skills sector, providing members with training, mentorship, and psychosocial support from professional counselors. Funded through a partnership between the Mastercard Foundation and Springboard Roadshow Foundation, Ghana Grows aims to create job opportunities for youth across various sectors of the economy, with a special focus on empowering individuals aged 15 to 35, particularly women and persons with disabilities in the agribusiness and Agriculture Technical Vocational Education and Training (ATVET) sectors.
With the GNTDA partnership, the program will reach 90,000 tailors and dressmakers across Ghana over the next four years, equipping current and aspiring members of the association with the tools and resources needed to thrive. The effort emphasizes helping young apprentices and master craftspersons within the GNTDA unlock new growth opportunities and recognize the potential within Ghana’s Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) industry.
Comfort Ocran, Executive Director of the Springboard Roadshow Foundation, shared her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “We want to see every young tailor and dressmaker reach their full potential—not just for themselves but for their families and the nation as a whole. It brings us joy to help young people thrive and build meaningful careers that contribute to Ghana’s development.”
GNTDA’s National President, Joana Eshun Mensah, encouraged members to make the most of this support, noting, “These opportunities come once in a while. I encourage all members of GNTDA to maximize this chance from Springboard Roadshow Foundation. I am confident it will be beneficial to all of us.”
She added that the GNTDA aims to assist around 22,500 individuals by the end of 2025, representing a quarter of the 90,000 target, to help members achieve their professional goals.
