The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has strongly refuted claims of a shooting incident at the Kumasi office of the Electoral Commission (EC). Contrary to circulating reports, the police clarified that no demonstrators were injured during the event. In a statement released on Tuesday, the police explained that a group of demonstrators attempted to breach the agreed protocols by trying to force their way into the EC office. The police intervened to prevent the situation from escalating.
The GPS also urged the media to ensure responsible and accurate reporting to avoid spreading false information. Meanwhile, chaos broke out in Kumasi as police used teargas to disperse NDC supporters during the ‘Enough is Enough’ protest, which led to clashes with law enforcement. One protester was injured and taken to the hospital, while another officer was assaulted by protesters. Some demonstrators were also seen attacking a police officer, who sought refuge in a nearby house.
