Tanzanian giants Simba Queens have appointed Yusif Basigi as their new head coach. The seasoned Ghanaian tactician has inked a one-year deal with the club, marking the next chapter in his coaching career after spending an impressive 21 years at Hasaacas Ladies.
Basigi takes over from Juma Mgunda, who parted ways with the club after his contract ended. He will be working alongside assistant coach Mussa Mgosi. Basigi’s first assignment with Simba Queens will be in the upcoming Community Shield semi-final, set to take place between September 24 and 27 at the KMC Complex Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Basigi began his coaching journey with Hasaacas in 2003, where he initially led the men’s team before assuming the head coach role for the women’s side in 2013. Under his leadership, Hasaacas Ladies won the maiden Ghana Women’s Premier League title, defeating Fabulous Ladies in the final.
During his successful tenure, Basigi guided the team to five league titles and captured the FA Cup in 2021. One of his standout achievements was leading Hasaacas Ladies to victory in the first-ever WAFU B Women’s Champions League and reaching the CAF Women’s Champions League final during the 2020/21 season.
Beyond club success, Basigi made history on the international stage by steering Ghana’s Black Queens to a gold medal at the 2015 All-Africa Games.
