The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) has announced a nationwide strike commencing on Friday, September 20, 2024. TEWU joins forces with the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) and the Federation of Senior Staff Association of Ghana in this industrial action. The decision comes after the government failed to meet their demands for better working conditions, despite prior protests and negotiations.
In a statement, TEWU criticized the Controller and Accountant General’s Department (CAGD) for not implementing the approved Vehicle Maintenance and Off-Campus allowances, even though the Ministry of Finance issued an approval letter to CAGD on August 2, 2024. Additionally, the union expressed frustration over the government’s unfulfilled promise to recalculate and pay members’ Tier Two pension interest, accrued due to delayed payments from January 2010 to 2016.
