The Technical University Senior Administrators’ Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) is poised to initiate a nationwide strike by the end of September 2024 unless their demands are addressed. In a statement released on September 8, 2024, TUSAAG voiced its dissatisfaction with the government’s ongoing neglect of their collective bargaining agreement, despite previous commitments.
The association highlighted the government’s failure to implement revised allowances for senior members of public universities, which were directed by the Ministry of Finance in May 2024, as a significant breach of their rights. Additionally, although an addendum to their collective bargaining agreement was signed in July 2024, the government has yet to act on these changes.
TUSAAG also raised concerns about discriminatory practices in the payment of common allowances among similar worker unions at public universities. They are demanding the disbursement of agreed-upon rates for vehicle maintenance, off-campus, fuel, utility, and sanitation/security allowances. If these payments are not reflected in the September 2024 salary validation, TUSAAG has resolved to declare a nationwide strike.
