The National Labour Commission (NLC) has instructed the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) to immediately call off its strike action. This directive came after a meeting on October 23, 2024, where the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) and PSWU appeared before the NLC over a labour dispute regarding two institution-specific allowances.
The PSWU had issued a strike notice on October 14, 2024, and commenced industrial action on October 21, 2024, citing delays in negotiations with the government over the allowances. The NLC has not only ordered an end to the strike but also directed both parties to resume negotiations by October 31, 2024, with a resolution expected by November 6, 2024.
Prof. Charles Adabo Oppong, Director of Grievances and Negotiations at FWSC, expressed the Commission’s readiness to continue talks with the union, ensuring a peaceful resolution to the dispute. The NLC’s intervention emphasizes the need for both sides to negotiate in good faith and resolve the impasse for a harmonious industrial relations environment.
