UTAG Urges Government to Resolve Strikes by University Unions

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) is calling on the government to address the ongoing strikes by university unions, including the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU), the Senior Staff Association of Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG), and the Federation of Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG). Strikes, which began on September 16, 2024, are in response to the Controller and Accountant General’s Department’s failure to implement approved vehicle maintenance and off-campus allowances.

Additionally, TUSAAG has announced a nationwide strike starting September 27, citing unmet obligations under the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Dr. Mamudu Akudugu, UTAG’s National President, emphasized the urgency of resolving these issues to facilitate the return of teachers to work.
