Two students in court for allegedly robbing teacher at gun point

Two university students, Joshua Kwabena Nyador & Wisdom Ayekple have been nabbed by the police for robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery in the Dansoman Circuit Court. The two have denied the allegations leveled against them through entry of a plea of not guilty. There other two suspects namely, Toussant Afadolo and Stanley are still on the run.

Nyador, Ayekple, and their accomplices allegedly robbed a teacher, whose identity has been withheld, of her iPhone XR and iPhone 6 at gunpoint. Additionally, they withdrew GHC175 from her mobile money account. The suspects also downloaded nude photos from her Instagram account and attempted to blackmail her, demanding GHC5,000 with threats to release the images on social media.Nyador and Ayekple were however admitted to bail at GHC1, 000,000.00 with two security and one of accepted character as sureties. The case has been further scheduled on November 25, 2024.

It would be recalled that the prosecution informed the court that the robbery was committed on July 12, 2024 at Mempeasem, Accra, which is the residence of the complainant. Nyador and Ayekple who introduced themselves as second year students of the University of Ghana, Stanley however alleged to have arrived at the scene in a white Toyota Corolla Spider. It is alleged that at the time, Stanley produced a gun and took money from the complainant and her friend.

After the robbery, the group withdrew money from the complainant’s mobile money account. They later accessed her Instagram, downloaded private photos, and threatened to release them unless she paid GHC5,000. The victim reported the incident to the police on August 17, leading to Nyador’s arrest at his residence in Madina Zongo Junction. In his statement, Nyador admitted to the crime, stating that his schoolmates sent him phones and a pistol.

Further investigation revealed that Nyador inserted the victim’s SIM card into different phones and sent messages from those devices, some of which were registered in his and his father’s names. Ayekple, however, denied his involvement in the robbery during his statement. The search for Afadolo and Stanley is ongoing.
