Thomas Tanko Musah, General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), has raised alarms about inadequate compensation and insufficient rest for educators under the double-track school system. His remarks follow a warning from Education Minister Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, who cautioned against the abrupt elimination of the system, suggesting it could harm students’ educational outcomes.
In an interview, Musah highlighted the immense pressure teachers face due to the current framework. He urged the government to create a comprehensive compensation plan to support teachers, emphasizing the necessity of adequate rest for their well-being and the overall quality of education. Musah stressed that if the double-track system remains in place, it is vital to ensure that teachers receive appropriate compensation for their continuous workload.
