Deputy Transport Minister Hassan Tampuli has urged the public to ignore the Concerned Drivers Association’s announcement of a 15% fare increase scheduled for November 2. He emphasized that fare adjustments should be based on factors such as fuel price stability and inflation, which he claims are currently stable. In an interview, Tampuli assured that the necessary economic triggers for fare hikes have not been met.
In contrast, David Agboado, Public Relations Officer for the Concerned Drivers Association, rejected Tampuli’s assertions, arguing that the Transport Ministry cannot control when operators adjust their fares. He cited significant increases in vehicle and fuel prices as justification for the planned fare hike.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has also advised the public to disregard the fare increment notice. GPRTU Industrial Relations Officer Imoro Abass noted that fare adjustments must involve consultations with all stakeholders and a thorough assessment of market conditions.
