The UK Minister for Africa, Lord Collins of Highbury, is set to visit Ghana on September 17, marking his first trip to West Africa. The visit is intended to strengthen the long-standing relationship between the UK and Ghana.
During his visit, Lord Collins will engage with key figures, including government officials, leaders in the tech and innovation sectors, and food security agencies in Ghana. He will also hold discussions with Civil Society Organizations, focusing on shared concerns such as democracy and security.
Lord Collins will announce several major funding initiatives, including £3.8 million in collaboration with the Shell Foundation to improve access to green energy in Ghana. Additionally, £1 million will be provided to support the country’s drought response, while £500,000 will be allocated to a food fortification program in northern Ghana.
Expressing his excitement for the visit, Lord Collins said, “The UK and Ghana are close friends, and my visit is about deepening our partnership for greater cooperation across areas like green growth and food security.” British High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, emphasized that the visit underscores the significance of the UK-Ghana relationship to the new UK government.
