“Man Utd can be unstoppable” – Van Nistelrooy

Interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy believes Manchester United can become an “unstoppable” force, though he acknowledges the journey will require time and dedication.

The former United striker is set to lead the team for the first time on Wednesday when they host Leicester City in the Carabao Cup last 16. Van Nistelrooy stepped in as interim manager following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal on Monday, with the club currently sitting 14th in the Premier League.

“When I rejoined this summer to support Erik, it was with a firm belief that Manchester United can reach the standards I experienced as a player,” Van Nistelrooy shared in his programme notes ahead of the Leicester match.

“That belief hasn’t changed, but it’s clear that achieving it demands time and relentless effort. We’ve seen flashes of the team’s potential, but consistency has been lacking,” he said.

Reflecting on his year managing PSV Eindhoven in 2022, Van Nistelrooy expressed confidence in United’s ability to become “unstoppable” when players, staff, and fans unite behind the cause.

Although it’s uncertain whether he’ll stay on if Sporting manager Ruben Amorim is appointed, Van Nistelrooy added, “Even in an interim role, managing this club is a tremendous honour, however long I’m needed.”

United have reportedly reached out to Amorim, who has yet to decide his future. Van Nistelrooy previously played for United from 2001 to 2006, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, EFL Cup, and FA Community Shield before returning as Ten Hag’s assistant last summer.
