Officials from the Electoral Commission (EC) in the Ashanti Region have initiated the process of reversing approximately 580 names from the Manhyia South voter register in compliance with a recent court order. This action follows a lawsuit by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the constituency, which identified discrepancies during the voter transfer exercise.
The Kumasi Magistrate Court, presided over by Her Worship Deborah Gyaawa Donkor, ruled on Tuesday that the EC must revert the affected voters to their original constituencies. In an interview, NPP Manhyia South Constituency Secretary Alhaji Haruna Alhassan expressed the party’s commitment to ensuring that the necessary actions are taken.
He urged other NPP stronghold constituencies to conduct thorough checksof the Voter Registerfor potential anomalies and seek redress if needed. “We became aware that the transfers to the constituency were unusual. During the exhibition process, we discovered abnormalities at about five or six polling stations out of the 107 in Manhyia South,” he noted.
