The Electoral Commission (EC) has refuted claims that it would release a revised version of the 2024 voter register within a week following the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on October 1. In a statement dated October 8, signed by Deputy Chairperson Samuel Tettey, the EC disagreed with assertions made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regarding the timeline for making the revised register available.
Following the IPAC meeting, the NDC announced that its Functional Executive Committee had accepted the EC’s promise to release the corrected version of the 2024 Provisional Voters Register (PVR) for scrutiny within one week.
However, the EC clarified that its Chairperson, Jean Mensa, stated during the meeting that the revised PVR would be provided to political parties and uploaded online within two weeks or sooner. The EC emphasized that nowhere in her remarks did she indicate a one-week timeline.
The EC’s statement included the following:
“For the records, the Chairperson of the EC indicated during the televised IPAC meeting that the Commission would provide the Political Parties with the revised voter register and upload it online within two (2) weeks or earlier. Nowhere in her statement did the Chairperson indicate that the revised PVR would be made available within a week.”
This clarification seeks to ensure accurate understanding of the timeline for the revised voter register as the December 7 elections approach.
