On Monday, August 19, supporters of Election Watch Ghana gathered outside the Electoral Commission (EC) headquarters to demand that political parties be given rapid access to the Provisional Voter Register (PVR). This step is in response to the Constitutional Instrument governing the 2024 elections requiring the EC to disclose the provisional voter register as soon as possible.
The delay has raised serious concerns, especially from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other parties involved in the approaching general elections, despite prior guarantees from the EC. Election Watch Ghana Convenor Mark Ewusi told the journalists outside the EC headquarters that the electoral process’s integrity and transparency are being compromised by the delay.
