Voters register exhibition intended to fix errors – EC replies NDC

The display of the provisional voters register (PVR), according to the Ghanaian Electoral Commission (EC), is an essential stage in guaranteeing the precision and integrity of the electoral process. The EC clarified in a statement shared on social media on Thursday that the exhibition exercise’s main goal was to fix any mistakes or omissions before the final register is printed and used for the elections.

The National Democratic Congress, the opposition, voiced concerns and demanded that faults be fixed, which prompted the EC to release its statement. For example, on Wednesday, NDC presidential candidate John Dramani Mahama chastised the Electoral Commission for failing to carry out its mandate in a way that would guarantee confusion-free elections in December 2024.

He drew attention to the various irregularities in the most recent voters register exhibition exercise run by the EC, which, if left unchecked, would cause mayhem on election day. On Wednesday, August 28, Mr. Mahama spoke to supporters during a campaign rally in Adjen Kotoku, within the Amasaman constituency. He raised concerns about things like duplicate registrations that aren’t being updated, unauthorized transfers, and missing names.

In order to preserve the legitimacy of the next elections, he thus pleaded with the EC to act quickly. In response, the Commission stated that problems within the provisional register can be identified and corrected through the procedure, which has been in place since 1992. It further stated that the final voter registration for the approaching elections won’t be collected and ready until all discrepancies have been resolved.
