The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has provided an update on the release of the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results, assuring the public that the process is ongoing.
In a statement, WAEC revealed that the results of 33 school candidates and three private candidates have been withheld pending further investigations. Additionally, the council is reviewing subject results from 149 schools due to potential irregularities detected during the examination process.
John Kapi, the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, addressed concerns from parents and guardians, urging them to remain calm as the council finalizes the results. He explained that some delays are due to errors made by supervisors and candidates during the examination. “In some cases, for instance, a music script might have been marked, but the corresponding design section could not be assessed by the same examiner,” Kapi said.
He emphasized that WAEC staff have been working around the clock to address these issues and ensure that the results are released as soon as possible. Kapi reassured parents that WAEC is committed to resolving these discrepancies and will publish the results in due course.
