Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the NPP, has pledged to lower the cost of public transport if elected to office in the next elections. Dr. Bawumia underlined his dedication to encouraging and supporting the usage of electric vehicles (EVs) for public transportation while outlining his plans to keep this promise.
He promised Ghanaians that the first batch of EVs will arrive in the nation by the end of 2024, marking a huge step towards more economical and environmentally friendly transportation, while speaking at the NPP manifesto launch on Sunday, August 18.
Dr. Bawumia stated “We will reduce the cost of public transportation by promoting and supporting Electric Vehicles (EVs) for public transportation”
Dr. Bawumia unveiled a number of initiatives aimed at lowering the cost and increasing accessibility of public transit in addition to the EV program. Among them is the extension of the Gold-For-Oil Program (G4O) in order to maintain fuel price stability.
He also disclosed that the policy of flat rate duties for all importers had been put into effect. By stabilising and predicting the price of imported spare parts, this program seeks to minimise maintenance costs for public transport vehicles, which in turn lowers passenger fares. He also mentioned proposals to increase the length of driver’s licenses to ten years, with a five-year renewal period.
