Dr. Humphery Ayim-Darke, one of the nine members of the committee tasked by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) with supervising the planning of the 2024 presidential and vice presidential debates, has promised that the committee will interact with political parties and candidates to guarantee extensive involvement.
Citing a lack of prior engagement, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had earlier declared that it would not take part in the debate. Dr. Ayim-Darke did, however, say in an interview that talks are still going on to encourage all eligible candidates to participate in the debate.
It is clear from history that the IEA has had these kinds of discussions, and there have even been instances where political parties have declined the invitation and the IEA has continued.
