According to reports from Meczyki.pl, Wojciech Szczesny is on the brink of completing a move to FC Barcelona. The Polish goalkeeper has reportedly reached an agreement with the La Liga giants, with the transfer expected to be finalized soon.
Szczesny, who announced his retirement from international football in August, has been linked with a potential switch to Barcelona over the past several days. Reliable transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also given his signature “Here we go” confirmation, signaling that the deal is close.
The former Juventus shot-stopper is anticipated to undergo medical tests as part of the transfer process, which could happen as early as this Thursday. However, other sources in Spain suggest the medical might take place later this week, rather than on Thursday itself.
FC Barcelona have reportedly offered a one-year contract to Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, following the long-term injury of their first-choice shot-stopper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen. Ter Stegen is expected to be out of action for approximately eight months due to a serious injury, prompting Barcelona to make an emergency transfer. Under La Liga’s rules, the club is permitted to use 80% of Ter Stegen’s salary to secure Szczesny’s services.
According to sources, the former Arsenal and Juventus goalkeeper has been offered a salary of €3 million for the remainder of the season. Szczesny, who retired from international football in August, will now have the opportunity to return to the pitch and contribute to Barcelona’s campaign in La Liga.
With his arrival, the 34-year-old will compete with Inaki Pena for the starting goalkeeper position in Ter Stegen’s absence. His wealth of experience will be crucial as Barça looks to maintain their strong form this season.
Commenting on the potential move, Szczesny expressed his admiration for the club, saying: “I have great respect for Barça’s history; they are one of the world’s top teams. With the unfortunate injury to Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, I think it would be wrong not to consider this opportunity.”
As Barcelona seeks to cover for the loss of their star goalkeeper, Szczesny is set to become a key figure in the team’s efforts to maintain their dominance in Spanish football.
