Dr. Mahamdu Bawumia, the NPP’s flagbearer, has declared that he will start working as soon as he is inducted into government and wins the 2024 election. He declares that for his first 100 days in office, he will not request a honeymoon. “I am definitely not taking a honeymoon, we are going to get straight to work to put things in place, the focus is on jobs, the first hundred days, we are going to be very hard at work,” he said during a media engagements in Accra on Sunday August 25.
Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia celebrated the accomplishments of the Gold for Oil initiative during the media engagement. He claims that the initiative prevented the collapse of the economy. Prior to this, Dr. Ernest Addison, Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), suggested that the Gold for Oil initiative be kept going. He clarified that this was a cutting-edge program implemented in response to a catastrophe. But according to Dr. Addison, the central bank wants a commercial bank to take over the initiative so the BoG may concentrate on its primary responsibility.
Speaking before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament on Monday, April 8, Buem lawmaker Kofi Adams was asked if he would recommend that this program be continued, given his previous stance that it would be phased out gradually. He responded, saying, “It is a program that we recommend to continue because it helped us in the period of crisis.” To free up our time to concentrate on our work as a central bank, we just want to ensure that a commercial bank handles this.
