Youth in Dormaa Ahenkro have taken proactive steps to combat illegal mining (galamsey) by apprehending over 10 illegal miners operating in the area. This recent action is part of the community’s ongoing efforts to curb the environmental destruction caused by galamsey activities.
The Dormaahene, Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Agyemang Badu, has thrown his full support behind this initiative. A long-time vocal critic of illegal mining, the Dormaahene reiterated his firm stance, emphasizing that galamsey will not be allowed in his jurisdiction. He vowed to continue supporting all efforts aimed at protecting the environment and the livelihoods of his people.
The individuals arrested by the youth have been handed over to the police for further investigation and legal proceedings. This development underscores the increasing determination of local communities, under the leadership of traditional authorities, to defend their lands from the devastation caused by illegal mining.
