Zongo Lane fire extinguished after 7 days

According to the Ghana National Fire Service, the fire that destroyed several stores on Zongo Lane in Accra has finally been put out. On September 7, 2024, the National Fire Service released this announcement via its official Facebook page.
Starting on September 1, 2024, the fire spread across Accra’s Central Business District’s business district, causing extensive damage in its wake.

Around 9:40 am, a tiny business was the scene of the fire, which swiftly spread to nearby establishments and sent dense clouds of black smoke skyward. As the fire spread quickly throughout the region, many items, including electronics, clothes, and other items, were burned to ashes. After a protracted battle, firefighters who arrived on time managed to contain the fire.

Firefighters were unable to enter the destroyed structures to finish the job, though, because of their state. Parts of the burning building collapsed two days after the outbreak.  The fire is finally out after seven days of nonstop fighting. But there was a lot of damage—many stores were completely destroyed.

According to early reports, the combustible nature of the materials in the shop contributed to the fire’s quick spread, which also affected the wooden tailoring shops behind the structure. The Ghana National Fire Service has opened an inquiry into the occurrence, while the origin of the fire is yet to be known.
