AmaZulu FC confirms signing Ghana goalkeeper Richard Ofori

AmaZulu FC has confirmed the signing of Ghanaian goalkeeper Richard Ofori on a permanent transfer, as announced by the club on Friday. The 30-year-old shot-stopper joins the South African Premier Soccer League side as a free agent, following the conclusion of his contract with Orlando Pirates.

Ofori, who previously played for both Orlando Pirates and Maritzburg United, expressed his enthusiasm about returning to KwaZulu Natal, a region he feels deeply connected to.

“I’m thrilled to be back in KZN,” he shared on the club’s official website. “This place feels like home to me since it was the first place I arrived when I came to South Africa. I’m here to contribute and continue the journey. AmaZulu is a big club, the oldest in the country, and I’m excited to be part of it.”

Ofori also praised AmaZulu’s strong goalkeeping department, emphasizing the importance of teamwork within the squad. “The club has top-quality goalkeepers, and our goal is to work together to help the team achieve success,” he added.

With 33 international caps for Ghana, Ofori brings a wealth of experience to AmaZulu and hopes to contribute to the club’s ambitions. He aims to replicate the success of the 2021/22 season, during which AmaZulu finished as MTN 8 runners-up and reached the CAF Champions League group stages.

Ofori’s last appearance for Ghana’s national team came in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations during a match against Mozambique.
