The heavyweights of the Ghana Premier League Asante Kotoko, were at the Embassy to start preparations for their October 14, 2024 matchup against DC United. Nine of the eighteen players that attended the Embassy, though, had their visas denied; the players were told to reapply. Kotoko, who defeated rivals Hearts of Oak 2-1 in the Democracy Cup, will play DC United in Washington at the Audi Field in Buzzard Point.
Activities to commemorate Ghana Week DC 2024 include the yearly ceremonial match, which is organised by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) in partnership with the Ghana Football Association (GFA). Following a 2-1 loss in a high-profile friendly on October 14, 2023, this is the second time a Ghanaian Premier League Club will go to the United States to play the MLS team. October 7–12, 2024, is when Ghana Week DC 2024 will take place in Washington, DC, USA.
