Barcelona have been prohibited from selling tickets for their Champions League away match against Red Star Belgrade in November, following incidents of racist behavior by their fans.
UEFA imposed a €10,000 (£8,330) fine on the Spanish giants after supporters were found guilty of racist actions during Barcelona’s 2-1 loss to Monaco on September 19. The specifics of the behavior were not disclosed.
This is not Barcelona’s first punishment for fan misconduct in European competitions. The club had previously received a one-match ban on away ticket sales after a Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain last season. However, that penalty was suspended for one year. Following the PSG match, three Barcelona fans were arrested for using racist slurs and allegedly performing Nazi salutes.
As a result of the latest ruling, no Barcelona fans will be allowed to attend the team’s November 6 clash in Belgrade.
Despite these off-field issues, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona side remains in top form, winning all seven of their La Liga matches this season and leading the league.
