The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced plans to reprint all ballot papers for the Volta and Ahafo regions following the discovery of incorrect serial numbers.
Speaking during an emergency Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting on Friday, November 15, Samuel Tettey, the EC’s Deputy Chairman of Operations, confirmed the decision. He explained that the Commission identified the errors and swiftly deployed teams to the printing houses to address the issue. Despite these efforts, unresolved discrepancies necessitated a complete reprint of the affected ballot papers.
According to Mr. Tettey, the Commission has tasked Buck Press and Acts Commercials with reprinting the presidential and parliamentary ballots for the two regions. He assured stakeholders that a detailed printing schedule would be shared by the end of the day.
Additionally, Mr. Tettey outlined plans for managing the defective ballots. The disposal process will involve all stakeholders, including political parties, who will witness and sign a certificate of destruction. Copies of the certificate will be distributed to all parties for accountability.
The EC clarified that the faulty ballots had not been distributed to the affected regions, making a recall unnecessary.
Editor’s Note: This story has been edited to correct an earlier indication that the faulty ballots were to be recalled. The EC explains that those ballots have not yet been distributed to the respective regions, and a recall is therefore not required.
