Dr. Bossman Asare, Deputy Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC), announced that the final voter register will be available in October. Before the document is printed, copies will be provided to political parties for review, he stated in an interview on Sunday, September 29.
Dr. Asare also commented on the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s recent request for a forensic audit of the voter register, labeling it as premature. He noted that all of the NDC’s concerns regarding the register have been addressed.
His remarks come in the wake of criticism regarding the appointments of certain EC members, who some, including retired Supreme Court Justice William Atuguba, believe are aligned with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP). Atuguba expressed discontent over what he described as the president appointing “stooges” to the Commission.
When asked about the EC’s public trust, Dr. Asare emphasized, “We don’t need you to trust us as individuals; trust us as an institution.” He reiterated that the call for a forensic audit was unwarranted at this stage.
