Accra Lions Coach Ibrahim Tanko Braces for Tough Season After Karela Draw

Accra Lions Football Club head coach Ibrahim Tanko has acknowledged that his team expected a challenging start to the 2024-2025 Ghana Premier League season. Speaking at a post-game press conference after the Lions secured their first point with a 1-1 draw against Karela United in Nalerigu, Tanko reflected on the difficulties the team has faced.

Before the match against Karela, Accra Lions had suffered two defeats, losing 1-0 to Medeama and 2-0 to Vision FC. Despite a stellar previous season in which they finished second in the league, highlighted by left full back David Oduro’s transfer to FC Barcelona, the current campaign has proven tough.

Ibrahim Tanko pointed to the mass departure of players as a significant factor, noting that the team’s reshuffle led them to anticipate a difficult beginning to the new season.
