Accra Lions FC has announced the departure of Coach Ibrahim Tanko after three successful years with the club. The decision, reached through mutual agreement, marks the end of a tenure that significantly contributed to the team’s growth and competitive edge.

During his time at the helm, Tanko played a pivotal role in advancing Accra Lions’ vision, earning admiration for his dedication and leadership. Reflecting on his departure, Tanko expressed pride in his accomplishments and the strong connections he formed with the players and staff.

“I’m leaving with immense pride, knowing that Accra Lions is not just a team but a family,” he shared. “Though I am stepping down to focus on other projects, my ties to the club remain unbreakable, and I will always be available to support them.”

The club has appointed German coach Rainer Kraft as Tanko’s successor. Kraft, who previously led Accra Lions to promotion into the Ghana Premier League between 2019 and 2021, returns with a deep understanding of the club’s philosophy and a strong track record of nurturing young talent.

Tanko leaves behind a legacy of achievements, including guiding the Lions to a second-place finish in the Premier League last season. However, the team has faced challenges in the ongoing 2024/25 campaign, making this a critical moment for renewed leadership.

Accra Lions management expressed gratitude to Tanko for his contributions, emphasizing that the door will always be open for a potential return.

As Kraft resumes his role, the club remains steadfast in its mission to develop exceptional talent and achieve greater success in the Ghana Premier League.
