Ghana has moved up eight places in the latest FIFA World Rankings following the Black Stars’ performance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The new rankings, released after the conclusion of the tournament, show Ghana moving from 73rd position to 65th in the world after reaching the Round of 32 stage of the competition.
The improvement marks a positive shift for the Black Stars, who returned to the global stage after missing out on the knockout stage in previous World Cup campaigns. Ghana’s progress at the tournament helped the team gain valuable ranking points and improve its position among the world’s national teams.
Spain Take Number One Spot
Spain have moved to the top of the FIFA rankings after winning the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The European giants defeated Argentina 1-0 in the final to claim their second World Cup trophy and deny Argentina the opportunity to successfully defend the title they won in 2022.
Spain’s triumph pushed them up one place to become the new number one ranked team in the world.
African Teams Make Gains
Ghana was not the only African country to benefit from the latest rankings update.
South Africa moved up six places following their impressive World Cup campaign, while Cape Verde also gained three places after their participation in the tournament.
However, Tunisia suffered a major setback after a disappointing World Cup outing. The North African side lost all three of their group-stage matches, resulting in a 12-place drop to 57th position in the world rankings.
Ghana’s improved ranking reflects the impact of its World Cup performance and provides a boost as the Black Stars continue preparations for future international competitions.
