Frank Lampard has been appointed as the new head coach of Coventry City, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Championship club.
The 46-year-old former Chelsea and England midfielder takes over at a challenging time, with the Sky Blues currently in 17th place, just two points clear of the relegation zone. Lampard replaces Mark Robins, who was relieved of his duties earlier this month after a seven-year stint at the club.
This appointment marks the first managerial decision made by Coventry’s owner, Doug King, since he acquired the club in January 2023.
For Lampard, this is his fifth managerial role, following previous spells with Derby County, Chelsea (in two separate stints), and Everton. His most recent coaching position was as interim manager at Chelsea, which ended in May 2023. Since then, he has worked primarily as a football pundit.
Lampard’s immediate goal will be to guide Coventry City away from relegation and reignite their season. His first challenge comes this Saturday with a crucial home match against Cardiff City.
