The Ministry of Health has escalated a case of alleged medical misconduct at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba, Central Region, to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Attorney General’s Department.
This decision follows an investigation by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), which revealed serious medical misconduct by certain hospital officials concerning the death of a patient who was transferred to Ojobi and subsequently abandoned until her demise.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, October 2, the Health Ministry noted that the GHS investigation concluded that the involved employees failed to act appropriately, contributing to the tragic outcome.
While the inquiry committee recommended internal disciplinary actions against the staff, the Ministry opted for further investigations due to the severity of the incident and the loss of life.
To ensure comprehensive accountability, the Ministry has sought the Attorney-General’s assistance in assessing the culpability of the staff and pursuing any necessary legal action. The case has also been reported to the CID for criminal investigation.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of healthcare delivery, promising to take measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
