Mikel Arteta has solidified his future with Arsenal by agreeing to a three-year contract extension at the Emirates Stadium.
The new deal, which runs until 2027, could see the Spaniard’s tenure with The Gunners extend to eight years, reflecting the club’s confidence in his leadership and vision for the team’s future.
“I feel extremely proud, very excited and am looking forward to what is coming next. I’m proud to be where I am and have the relationships that I have with everyone at the club,” Arteta told the club’s website.
“I feel extremely lucky to work every single day with good people and the ambition we have here. I feel very inspired, I feel challenged, I feel supported, and I want to do much more than what we’ve already done together.
“Together with the players and everyone at the club, we are looking forward to the coming years, with our supporters, who have emotionally transformed the club and the team. Our supporters have transformed individuals and we are different now.
“You can tell that we are different and for me, that is down to them. We look forward to continuing the journey together.”
Mikel Arteta has extended his contract with Arsenal, keeping him at the Emirates until 2027. The new deal comes as a reward for his successful tenure, which has seen back-to-back second-place finishes in the Premier League.
Arteta, who took over from Unai Emery in December 2019, has significantly reshaped Arsenal’s ambitions. A former Arsenal midfielder, he stepped into his first managerial role after serving as assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. Since then, he has emerged as one of Guardiola’s main competitors, turning Arsenal into genuine title contenders.
Arteta won the FA Cup in his debut season and transformed the team after three years outside the top four. Arsenal finished as Premier League runners-up in both 2022/23 and last season, accumulating 89 points but falling just two points behind champions Manchester City.
The Gunners have kicked off the new campaign with two victories and a draw. However, Arteta faces a selection challenge ahead of Sunday’s north London derby against Tottenham, with captain Martin Odegaard sidelined by an injury picked up during the international break. Midfielders Mikel Merino and Declan Rice will also miss the match due to injury and suspension, respectively.
