The Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mawutor Agbavitor, has called on party members and executives to temper their expectations of President John Dramani Mahama and his government, emphasizing patience and unity as the administration works towards fulfilling its commitments.
Speaking during the President’s thank-you tour in Ho on Friday, Mr. Agbavitor assured residents that the region’s future remained promising.
“The sun will undoubtedly shine brightly on the Volta Region,” he affirmed, expressing gratitude to the President for his appointments and for entrusting key roles to sons and daughters of the region.
President Mahama’s Gratitude and Strategic Appointments
President Mahama began his thank-you tour in the Volta Region to personally acknowledge the overwhelming support and votes that contributed to his return to office.
Describing the region as a “beacon of democracy and the backbone of the NDC,” President Mahama expressed deep appreciation for the unwavering loyalty of its people. He emphasized that his ministerial appointments were based on merit, with a focus on competence and the ability to deliver results.
Highlighting key appointments, the President noted the selection of Madam Dzifa Abla Gomashie as Minister of Tourism to harness the region’s vast tourism potential. Similarly, the Roads and Highways Minister, Mr. Kwame Governs Agbodza, was tasked with improving the region’s road infrastructure.
The President reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the Volta Region’s development needs while leveraging its strategic significance to enhance national progress.
NDC’s Stronghold in the 2024 Election
Chairman Agbavitor highlighted the Volta Region’s pivotal role in the NDC’s 2024 electoral success, noting an impressive 90.11% voter turnout for the party. He celebrated the reclaiming of the Hohoe parliamentary seat and the party’s clean sweep of all seats in the region.
He further emphasized the reduction of the opposition’s influence by 48%, expressing optimism that the margin would continue to shrink under President Mahama’s leadership. Agbavitor also hinted at the region’s openness to additional appointments in the coming years.
Regional Leadership Voices Support and Expectations
Togbe Patamia Dzekle VII, Paramount Chief of Bator and Vice President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs, assured the President of the chiefs’ unwavering support for his “Resetting Ghana Agenda.” He urged the President to deliver on campaign promises and implement the advice provided by the chiefs.
Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, commended President Mahama for promptly appointing his ministers and urged him to prioritize resolving water challenges in Ho and improving the region’s roads.
Rev. Seth Mawutor, Chairman of the Christian Episcopal Association in the Volta Region, called on the people to remain patient and offer prayers for the President’s success. He emphasized that the challenges ahead were significant and would require collective effort and unity to overcome.
